保护膜金属线栅偏振片用于反射可见光谱中的 S 偏振光，同时透射 P 偏振光。这些偏振片包含很薄的铝质金属线栅，线栅附着在涂有硬质保护性镀膜的玻璃基片上。镀膜可以保护金属线栅结构免受刮擦或因机械应力而产生的其他伤害，同时能实现比使用盖玻片的传统 金属线栅偏振片 更轻、更薄的设计。这些偏振片具有保护性镀膜，因此可以轻松进行处理与清洁，这一点不同于不建议进行处理与清洁的 裸金属线栅偏振片。 保护膜金属线栅偏振片可在温度高达 200°C 的环境中使用超过 小时，该环境对性能的影响很小。
